Are you curious about sustainability, education, or hands-on projects? Are you interested in getting paid while gaining hard and soft skills and job training?

Spark-Y is hiring an Apprentice to help support our work across multiple areas of our organization: hands-on education facilitation, sustainable project deployment, and/or curriculum development. The Spark-Y Apprentice will work with full-time staff to gain professional experience in topics such as STEM, sustainability, urban agriculture, and more.

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Complete a two-week training period.

  • Engage with Spark-Y through hands-on, entrepreneurial, STEM and sustainability projects and programs. 

  • Lead, organize, and prepare meaningful educational opportunities that result in an increased sense of self and community.

  • Obtain technical job training and guidance on workplace behavior, competencies, individual responsibilities, and development of occupational skill sets.

  • Implement work toward achieving the competencies set out in the training plan.

  • Update training record when required.

  • Participate in the office and travel to project sites when required.

  • Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities.

  • Perform work as directed by supervisor or staff mentor.

Eligibility:

  • 18-24 years in age.

  • Demonstrated ability to present information to individuals and groups.

  • Resident of Hennepin County or Ramsey County with a demonstrated negative impact by COVID 

Non-Essential Experience:

  • Knowledge or education in education, biology, sustainability, agriculture, or entrepreneurship.

  • Experience working with youth.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Compensation: $500 stipend at the conclusion of training period and $15/hr after completion of training. 

Certifications: Urban Agriculture Certification, Entrepreneurship Certification, Hand and Power Tool Safety Certification, and Sustainability Certification.

Travel and expenses: Metro Transit Bus Pass upon request.
